  • Montego Turbo and Maestro at ingleton classic car show

Well that was a treat, of all the classic car shows I have been to this year around the north east and seen no representation off maestro and montego's there was two today at a local car show just outside of Darlington, was some good metal turn up must be the shockingly good weather. One very special, an immaculate (when i say immaculate I mean factory fresh not a single little mark) original c reg MG montego turbo with 5575 miles on it from new with the nice chap I was talking to the only owner buying it new in 1985 And it lives just down the road from me, no surprise I have never seen it lol. I joked if it was for sale and the chaps wife said its going to have to be we have to many cars although I cant see him parting with it that easily. They also had a Morris 1000 displayed they said they use for 'coast to coast trips' I have his number anyhow hes invited me to another local car show on August bank holiday, think my turbo will look a treat next to it Also what looked like a restored A plate base Austin maestro, couldn't find the owner on this one though.

That early Maestro is a BIG rarity!!! no rear windscreen wiper, door caps, headrests etc etc

That Monty is utterly gorgeous and must be worth a bomb with that mileage and condition, do we know of these cars??

I don't remember seeing them before!

The Montego is lovely, and with such a stupidly low mileage would be sure to set records if the owner ever sold it. I wonder why you would buy such a driver's car and then ummm...not drive it?

I must say though, that the Maestro is the more interesting car of the two. Nice and early, the right colour and a specification that scores top marks for novelty value! A rare survivor from the original line up and a fantastic contrast to the more popular and populous trim levels.

Wow what a fantastic Montego Turbo, so mint! That it might come up for sale has certainly got me interested! Maybe one day this may become a club car as I'm sure other people would be interested with it but I suspect it would be worth a considerable good bit of money. Great to see an early Turbo in such pristine condition.

I entered my Montego Turbo in the MG owners club Northern nationals at Pateley Bridge i think it was 2011 and spoke to a chap who told me that he had a white one with a low mileage and it was still on the original wheels. He said it had the black boot spoiler. I assumed when he said white it would be Arun based on the age i didnt expect it to be white diamond. He also confirmed that he had had the car from new.I asked him why had he not brought it today and entered t in the show. His parting shot was did i know where to get any of the 365 tdx tyres from? I still have my original set which are all legal tread depth but i changed mine for the very reason they were diffficult to get and really didnt want to fit old tyres to a car i use . This has to be the same chap. I was left thinking yes it nice to have such a car with low mileage but if you are not enjoying it whats the point of it just sitting in the garage. Its good to see pictures of this car but i have to confess i am not keen on the coachline. I dont ever remember it been a standard fitment unless he asked the garage to fit it.

Was it for sale or was it another car that was advertised for sale?

No they had a MG metro and an 1990 Toyota MR2 for sale. They both sounded like complete petrol heads with a sizable car collection from what I could make out. I asked jokingly if it was for sale and his wife seemed to suggest with all honestly that she would let it go, the husband not so sure. I have there number and will be attending the classic car event in August so I will make a point of asking if they would part with it for a serious offer to a club member and get back. I asked if they had the internet and had been on this site and they said no. I think it could be surprising how many immaculate examples are out there with the older owner that does not use the internet. There is an early 80's metro vp in beige utterly immaculate that attends a lot of the local car shows, when talking to the owner he didn't have the internet and was trying to organize a local monthly meet handing out slips of paper, old skool ha.

My Maestro which erm is a project awaitng funds to start, doesnt have a rear wiper or head restraints or even a clock!. A reg one private owner form new. Dealer Arnold clark was her first registered keeper. At the mo said car doesnt even start. However rear arches are solid and even headlining is where it is supposed to be and no cracks in dash either. Drivers side sill is a bit crushed at the front where it has bee incorectly jacked up and she does need a bit of welding tlc underneath but nothing to seriouse. Stating issue is currently the big issue. However i would dearly love to afford the Mg in the above pics. That is a beauty!

Been chatting to George who owns the MG Montego Turbo. Now know the history and the mileage which is 11,000 as the speedo has been replaced. Was only put back on the road this year. He used to work on these and Maestro's. I did check of course and it's not for sale
