  • Maestro Turbo claims

    Dear All

Thinking back to the advert for the Maestro Turbo, where they claimed it was faster (presumably 0-60 times?) than a Ferrari, a Porsche, a Lamborghini, a Lotus, or an Aston Martin.
Were the advertising company used by Austin Rover smoking something dodgy when they put this advert out, as I can't find any Lambo, Lotus or Aston on sale then which was slower than the Turbo Maestro.
Can anyone clear this up for me?

    Cheers

Lamborghini LM002 is 7.7 secs. Bit cheeky as the lambo weighs the same as a house!

lotus excel claims 6.8 secs, was the maestro 6.7?

Yes the Maestro claimed 6.7 secs, so just faster than an Excel, and a second faster than an Italian version of a Chelsea tractor!
With improved trading standards, this sort of meaningless nonsense wouldn't be allowed today then! (not that I'm saying the Turbo isn't fast, just the advertising was exaggerated at best!)

Hard to see on here but performance claims are on the bottom of this poster. As one is hanging over my computer ail write them down,:

        Ferrari Mondial 7.4
        Lamborghini Jalpa 7.0
        Lotus Excel 6.8
        Aston Martin V8 Volante 7.0
        Porsche 944 7.1

If you google the Jalpa 0-60 you can get anywhere from 5.8 to 7.0 seconds!!!

I think it's a perfectly acceptable advert, especially as they show the proof. I've had to go and buy that poster now :-)
