  • Annual National meeting of the Maestro & Montego Owners Club – 26th August – Ripon

    As the club has become more active outside the traditional heartlands of the Midlands, it was decided that this year we would travel up to the North for our annual get together.

    On Sunday 26th August we will be at the Mark Woodward autumn car show at Ripon Racecourse, in North Yorkshire. The Club has purchased a batch of 20 tickets which are available free to the first 20 members who wish to attend - one ticket per vehicle (please contact Tanya to secure yours).

    The shows held at Ripon are very popular and this year (at the Spring event on 22nd April) we managed to assemble 10 Maestros & Montegos, from just within our northern membership, so we're hoping for great things from the National show there.

    If you live further afield and wonder whether you should go, or think it's a bit far to travel, what I'd say is (and no, I am not on commission from the Yorkshire Tourist Board!) that why not come up for 4-5 days? There's so much to see and do in this part of the country -

    - The spa town of Harrogate (with the famous Bettys café) is 30 mins from Ripon;
    - 45 minutes south of Ripon is York with it's Minster, Jorvik Centre, National Railway Museum (to name but a few visitor attractions);
    - Scarborough and the Yorkshire coast (50 mins on train from York);
    - The magnificent stately home of Castle Howard (54 mins);
    - Leeds (52 mins away) - Harewood House, Royal Armouries;
    - Elvington - Yorkshire Air Museum (57 mins);
    - Newby Hall & Gardens - 16 mins;
    - Ripon is on the edge of Nidderdale and the Yorkshire Dales National Park;
    - You're in James Herriot country - in the books Herriot lives and works in the fictional town of 'Darrowby', which is a composite of Thirsk, Richmond, Leyburn and Middleham (all within 40 mins or so of Ripon).

    Need I say more? Come and join us at Ripon, where you can meet old friends, put a face to people you've talked to online, and have a grand day out.

    For a free member's ticket contact Tanya, or book one from Mark Woodward's website - http://www.markwoodwardclassicevents.com/event-list - and select "Club Exhibit Registration."
    Please note online ticket sales will close at midnight on 17h August. It will be possible for you to pay on the gate on the day, but that will cost you £7 per adult and £2.50 per child (as opposed to £4.00 per vehicle if you pre-book)

    Thanks

    Andrew
