  • suspension and brakes maestro turbo

    Hi all.
Maestro turbo number 49 is soon being restored.
I'm after advice or contacts for suspension and brakes upgrades.
As a note I'd like to retain the cross spokes (6js).
Am I right in thinking mk1 vw golf suspension is suitable?
    Ben

Brake upgrade is essentially the PAW kit (or the various copies). That retains original wheels but ups the disc size from 240mm to 285mm.

Golf suspension can be made to fit I think but I have a feeling it was far too low when people tried it.

I've gone mgzs180 front brake on the front with the montego turbo
If you have the patients to make up some brackets and centralising ring for the disc.
It's about the best upgrade you can do and keep the oe wheels.

Not only do you go to 280mm discs, the pads and caliper Pistons are much bigger!

Cheers Dan and Dave. Food for thought.

Std rover zs180 discs (drilled out studs a touch)

Also running the 180 discs on the back as well.
            Haven't tried it yet.
But think the pedal travel might be a issue.
Might need a bigger master cylender

Yes I was going to say if you go for bigger pistons then you'll need to swap the master for a larger one too (not sure on options for this).

The PAW kit is well proven and uses 285mm discs and original calipers so no pedal travel issues.

Hi, can anyone explain to me what the paw kit is all about? Does anyone know which springs to use to harden the suspension?

PAW kit is a big brake upgrade as the standard ones aren't upto much on a tweaked car (or even a standard turbo).

Suspension choices are limited. I'm not sure anyone makes anything for them anymore so you'll have to get some made probably or pick up a second hand set.
