All sorted, thanks to G4GLM, head back together and ready to go on. Thanks for the offer MGM, but hang on to yours for the next emergency :¬) Might even be worth getting it fixed if the head is complete.

These, or rather the ones with the bigger hole to fit the three ring collets.

Hi G4GLM, Those are the collets which fit inside the spring cap. It's the actual spring caps: the chunky washer type things which sit on top of the springs and the collets hold the valve into, which I need, although the matching collets would be handy as I think the ones I have are VW so may not fit...

If you don't have time for dismantling, I'm happy to courier the whole head and send back any bits you want. Getting this done is my top priority at the moment :-)

That would be wonderful MGM. Glad you're in the UK, I was expecting to find some which needed posting from Australia :¬)

Montego Turbo valve spring caps
I'm desperately in need of 4 valve spring caps to fit the Sodium cooled valves and have been told that the same valves/caps were used on all of the engines after '92. Can anyone confirm this, and/or give me numbers, or preferably let me know where I can get some.
Thanks.

I know this is a very old thread, but in case someone else is looking; I just dug through my spare bolts till I found one the right size to just thread into the washer, and pull it out.

Montego countryman engineless Cornwall
I'm afraid I finally gave up battling my white(ish) Countryman TDi Estate through the MOT when the Turbo died and we needed to get a camper van on the road.
The Engine is out (going in the Sherpa Camper ) but before I scrap the car, I'd like to offer it up on here. I'd love to see it rescued,...

I know, I should have rebuilt it, but I had a spare, and four days to get it through the MOT. Still got it somewhere.
I'm afraid the replacement engine is now going in a Sherpa Camper as the Turbo died (the old one was on it's way), so I'll run it Turboless till I've found a suitable one, and...

I had to replace my old engine when it failed an MOT due to black smoke :¬(
with 670,000 miles on the clock :¬) It was still starting nicely, and had plenty of poke, just too much smoke.
