  • Maestro turbo 471 restoration

    Hi all,

I'm not new to the forum but I have never posted. I've owened my maestro turbo since I was 18(9years ago) my mother had 1 at the same time we had a blast (the good old days)

The car was off the road for around 6 years until last year I moved house and just wanted to have a drive so I got it mot'd and it pasted with only a few minors many being corriosion.

Anyway, I want to enjoy her again so it's time to get her sorted. Now I'd love to do as much work to it as possible but with my lack of knowledge lack of time and lack of space i simply can't. I want to see if any of you guys want to take on a project with me. If I need to use different people eg 1 person for bodywork and 1 person for engine I will. However I am very certain in what I want. Charliecosworth has done a fantastic job with his so I'm gona lean more towards T16 but i do love the 8v power delivery Defo need to change the suspension and braking system for a custom setup and the list goes on. I'm based in Birmingham so if someone is local by all means pop in for a cuppa.

So if you want to help and get involved let me know I'm itching to get this project started.

    Many thanks

    James

I'm from castle brom. I have seen a green turbo working at the fort Dunlop with a big spoiler on the back??. Where are these turbos. Would be nice to see 1 on the road to give me more enthusiasm.
Peter I havnt got deep pockets unfortunately so it will be a long process, I'm a fab/welder buy trade so I will have to do a lot myself, I just havnt got the room. Has anyone had an ally fuel tank replace for the original 1? I don't want a fuel cell.

Hi James, stick up some pics of the turbo! Would be good to see it.

Oh and I got a quote for an alloy copy of a maestro tank to be made with a swirl pot inside. Im sure it was between £100 and £150. I can pass on the details if you like

Oh brilliant yes if you can. I do live close to pro alloy, they made my intercooler aswel they aren't the cheapest but do a good job. I haven't got any pics of her really. Still trying to figure out where I'm going to do all of the work I have a single garage which is mega tight where do you guys work on your cars?

I work either on the road, drive or under the carport. Weather dictates plus the length of time for the repair.

You'll be amazed at what you can do with just a single garage. I've rebuilt a mini on my dads driveway as he has motor bikes in his garage. A friend of mine has rebuilt an Alfa Spider, beetle and is now working on an old BMW. He has no garage and even sprays the cars himself on the drive, which os only long enough for 2 cars.

                  You'll be fine, good luck!

I agree. Certainly beats my garage. New house is needed with a large plot next to it.

I've struggled for years with either no garage or a single a good distance from my house. Promised myself that once I bough my own place, the house will belong to the family but the drive is mine!

The major problem is once you've got the space you find it gets filled up hence now having 15 cars here at the moment.

I'm under orders to stay off the grassed areas but it's a struggle whilst trying to get the next project onto the lift.

When are we going to see the pictures of your turbo?
