Well this car can not hold water, on the way home from an excellent Montego 40th it sprang a leak at the rear water pipe rubber that attaches to the rear of the thermostat. Now that the temperature gauge works it started to go up. So we limped it home topping it up every 10 miles or so with the cap loose.
All done now and also sorted the non working buzzer which should have buzzed, front indicator and rear brake light. All ready to go back to Chris now. On a good thing, the car ran well up to then with a few admiring shout outs. Was great to see three MG Montego Turbos at the show which is very rare now.1958 Ford Consul Convertible. I love this car

Thought that I had sorted the car this week. Did the water pipe and tested it so no leaks. Chris took the car back home this evening but it cut out on the A1 when he put the heater fan on. Drifted into a layby and he turned the fan off and it started again, turned on and it cut out so with the fan off he drove home.
Once home he put the fan on and this time it didn't cut out, I have no idea why this happened.
On another note the car again got warm once travelling over 70mph so I I'm guessing the rad isn't up to the job and will try getting a spare I have re-cored.
I don't really understand why the car is doing this at it drove faultless untill Leicester, no engine getting warm either and we were doing just above the speed limit.

I have found in my spares, good job I don't throw much away, an older turbo rad with brass sides so will be getting another rad made up with a triple core. John McFeely years ago used to have a triple core rad in his turbo so going down that route.1958 Ford Consul Convertible. I love this car

The cutting out incident could be caused by a sticky ignition switch, I had something similar once, key wasn't quite in the right place, everything worked ok until I put a bigger load on (by trying to close the frosty window that I opened to see out at a junction), then half of the ignition controlled stuff went off, it being a diesel the engine stayed on. Did a bit of fuse checking in the dark (didn't switch engine off, in case of a fault escalation...this was a mistake!), no faults found, drove home with icy blast through car. Got back, turned engine off, clock came on, realised that switch had stuck between aux and ign positions, any movement of switch would have fixed it, said oh dear once or twice If this (or something similar) is what happened, you'll probably never find it, but it'll probably not do it again..
Chris said a bit more than oh dear btw and so did I1958 Ford Consul Convertible. I love this car
