Next time? You only want to do this once

Very true, but just once per project still leaves a few next times....

This weekend's work looks like I've been busier than last weekend, even though I haven't! I added plenty of white paint pointing to the timing marks, which aren't always easy to see. My spare cambelt tensioner turned out to be one of the harder to find early ones when I opened the box, so I've ordered one of the correct ones to put on next weekend.

Got a bit more done today, the Borg & Beck clutch alignment tool is one of those tools that looks crappy, but ends up being indispensable. The tool holds the driven plate central on the pressure plate, so just a case of sticking it onto the dowels and torqueing the bolts up.

New cambelt tensioner on, the Haynes and early Rover workshop manuals don't give tension figures for use with the Rover belt tension gauge, but the later Rover book does, 5 to 7 is the acceptable range, so I set it at 6. Not quite ready for the PAS drive belt yet, but I got one out ready. The correct part is GCB 50765, which is a belt 765mm long and 11.9mm top width with high ride out, you can see it sitting proud of the pulley in the photo. If you get a belt that doesn't sit proud of the pulley it is certain to slip, which is why I made a point of getting a genuine one. The RH engine mount was the subject of a technical bulletin, the bush was prone to wandering out of the housing, fix was a self tapper, or pop rivet, I used a self drilling screw which should be a bit stronger. Now to work out the breather hoses...
