John, how did you get the dust shields to go in on the calipers? Ignore that as I sussed it

I hope so, just been fitting the breather bits that I got from you, so next bits are the fuel, electrical and gearbox, just need to decide what ratios to use....

New cambelt tensioner on, the Haynes and early Rover workshop manuals don't give tension figures for use with the Rover belt tension gauge, but the later Rover book does, 5 to 7 is the acceptable range, so I set it at 6. Not quite ready for the PAS drive belt yet, but I got one out ready. The correct part is GCB 50765, which is a belt 765mm long and 11.9mm top width with high ride out, you can see it sitting proud of the pulley in the photo. If you get a belt that doesn't sit proud of the pulley it is certain to slip, which is why I made a point of getting a genuine one. The RH engine mount was the subject of a technical bulletin, the bush was prone to wandering out of the housing, fix was a self tapper, or pop rivet, I used a self drilling screw which should be a bit stronger. Now to work out the breather hoses...

Got a bit more done today, the Borg & Beck clutch alignment tool is one of those tools that looks crappy, but ends up being indispensable. The tool holds the driven plate central on the pressure plate, so just a case of sticking it onto the dowels and torqueing the bolts up.

This weekend's work looks like I've been busier than last weekend, even though I haven't! I added plenty of white paint pointing to the timing marks, which aren't always easy to see. My spare cambelt tensioner turned out to be one of the harder to find early ones when I opened the box, so I've ordered one of the correct ones to put on next weekend.

Very true, but just once per project still leaves a few next times....

It doesn't look like a weekend's work, but it was... The head face needed skimming as the waterways had corroded, the manifold face had also suffered from corrosion, the studs were quite hard to get out and one hole ended up needing to be helicoiled. The valve seats just needed a light lapping & I was lucky with the valve clearances, all were within tolerances. Now I just need to put it back on the engine! I'll be using waterless coolant, so the waterways shouldn't be corroding again...

A bit more progress today, now oil pump and filter filled with oil before fitting the sump. I'll have to try to avoid knocking too much paint off when putting the rest of the bits on!.

All good news apart from POL being cancelled then. I'm always amazed at the number of times something you need turns up when you're looking for bits & bobs for someone else

Your in luck, not seized , I put in new core plugs at the time too. Bores look ok to me so just needs checking and a clean , no idea about the shells. Sump has a dent but that's not a problem. I'd also forgotten it was sitting on 2 brand new front turbo struts so that's a good find for my son
