  • Contacts needed for researching history of works Maestro motorsport

We're doing some research on the history of works Maestros, and the following names came up:
    1. Tony Pond http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Pond
    2. John Davenport (as mentioned here): http://www.aronline.co.uk/index.htm?mgrev6r4f.htm
    3. John Dalton http://www.mgcars.org.uk/cambs.mgoc/fwd/fwdrally.html
    4. Pablo Raybould (bought and rallied an ex-works Maestro in the RAC) http://www.maestro.org.uk/forums/album.php?albumid=74

If anyone has any contact details for the above (or Tony Pond's family, obviously), we would be very grateful.

Here is one strand that we have been investigating, recently FYI:

Thanks -I spoke to Pablo yesterday -a veritable mine of information from his illustrious Maestro rallying career!

Anyone know how I can get hold of John Dalton, nowadays?

You may want to try and dig further with the maestro, there suposedly 2 maestro 6R4s that were mid engine and a group S maestro prototype with a front engine V64V and the same transmission that was used in the alo still born astra 4S which used a manta 400 engine. This car did see the light of day as it was used by Jonh Welsh in Rallycross in the late 80s.
The is a picture possibly on here but also on the austin rover site of a 2dr maestro. Look closely and you will notice that the arches are quite a bit bigger than normal, im pretty sure tis is from some kind of motorsport project.
