Diff wants the bearings swapped for steel caged ones (SKF explorer preferably).

Is that the cambelt tensioner? If so I think the belt kits have them in don't they? I picked one of them up recently off of the shelf.

Very busy with work at present and no time to play which im finding very fustrating! 2015 comp lic with year book here and noise limit is 98db so going to stick with twin box system. gearbox is out, new bearingds on the way and torsen diif being fitted Now for some help and advise from those who know.... Flywheel. ive read a similar thread and doesnt quite give me the info im looking for? Its early 2.0 oseries with flywheel PSD101580 with the screw/bolt on type reluctor ring. i now have a PSD101610 flywheel which appears to be similar/the same (Same clutch hole pcd etc) appart from smaller spacing ring gear and recessed reluctor ring.... my question is will a rover 200 starter solve the ring gear differance or is swapping the ring gear the answer? The 610 flywheel will be less complicated to have lightened so would prefer this route. Has anyone swapped these or fitted 200 starter and any input??????

If you are having work done on the flywheel, i.e. lightening, then get it drilled for the larger 228mm clutch. This will have more torque reserve than the original unit so more suited for motorsport use.

So long as the spacing of the gaps on the reluctor ring are the same then you should be able to use either flywheel matched to the appropriate starter. I remember there are two ring gear patterns as I managed to get the wrong starter once which all bolted up fine but turned the engine over for a fraction of a second before jamming (symptoms like a flat battery). However it turned out there are different number of teeth on the flywheel/starter to suit. So long as you are using the right match then swap to your hearts content!.

Hi ETV thanks for reply, same 2 gap reluctor and in same place. got the 2 different ring profiles on each flywheel. So if the starters are the same (ie location holes) but different sized or the teethed drive gears then which is which? Is there a specific change over year your aware of for the starter? or part numbre? Easier to buy new starter and it has been sat for 15 years so isnt a bad idea anyway but am happy to swap ring gear if needs be.

I'm afraid I can't recall exactly what I did, but I seem to recall I used a rover 800 starter to fix the issue. It had a different number of teeth on the starter pinion from memory.

Changing the ring gear is easy if you have the right kit but virtually impossible if you don't!

Im hoping to get some maestro time this weekend, the head is back from workshop skimmed, cleaned and ready for rebuild, the gearbox is stil;l being rebuilt aand the flywheel is off for work next week. interestingly the original is 10.4kg and the later 9.6kg..... lightening is still to commence and quite eager for some dyno results after all this!??

The head skim was done by E.R.S in burscough a local engine specialist. The head work on the ports was done by myself. Around 4/5 hours per port, lets just say a little hobby that i find unusually quite relaxing with no stress, with port grinder lots of measuring and volume control with calipers and burette and finally by hand with bleeding fingers but results that im more than happy with.

After countless hours of web searching and phone calls it once again appears what im looking for is unavailable. timing belt tensioner being the culprit. I recall seeing a thread on this particular tensioner but am buggered if i can find it again, but remember it was a modified pinto one. With this in mind i ordered a pinto tensioner and have made the required mods to make it suitable for the efi in question. Starting to feel like this project/resurection is resembling frankenstein more and more as time goes on
