  • IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: FUTURE COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED

    The future of the Maestro & Montego Owners Club

    2015 will be a crucial year for the M&MOC. The months leading up to the Annual General Meeting in November 2015 will determine the future of the Club. Will the Club be able to implement current plans to improve the services it offers and embark on new projects? Will the Club continue on its current course? Or will the Club be no longer able to maintain its current level of activity and be forced to suspend many of its functions?

    This is to be decided in the lead-up to the AGM in November. It is to be decided by you – the Membership (And interested parties reading this announcement who are not currently members, who could offer their expertise/knowledge/experience - but you'd have to join the club first to be a member before becoming a committee member of course). I went to an AGM and joined the club there-and-then and was voted onto the committee - so anything is possible!

    Following on from recent upheavals and changes within the existing Committee, some Committee members have resigned from their roles and other Committee members will additionally resign from the Committee in November. It is clear to the Committee that if the vacant roles are not filled then Club activities cannot be continued in their current form.

    It is important to have an owners’ club for Maestros and Montegos. To provide an ongoing service to promote, assist in/advise on the maintenance, repair and preservation and advise on the further development of these cars. They are (respectively) the 9th and 2nd most likely 70/80s British cars to face extinction within the next 10 years. As a mid-range BL/ARG competitor to the Astra/Escort/Golf they played their important part in the job of keeping British families and businesses on the move in the 80s and 90s and as such, coupled with the well regarded MG and van versions deserve to be looked after by a club that not only caters for them, but cares for them – and their owners too. That’s the purpose of the club. That’s why we exist. At present we are the sole club catering for these cars.

    The Club’s current objectives are;

    The imminent liquidation of the spares stock to free up cash and then concentrate on parts remanufacture in the future.
    Improve the quality of the Club magazine Monstro by moving to full colour printing.
    Use funds raised from the sale of spares to invest in a new website and membership database.
    Continue with the Club’s attendance at high-profile shows throughout the show season.

    The Club needs interested and enthusiastic members to step up and fill the vacant positions on the Committee. The debate resulting from the proposed closure of the Discussion Forum has proved that the enthusiasm required is there, and hopefully some of you will be prepared to help run your Club. Many of the existing Committee have served for many years, so an influx of new people with fresh ideas should have a positive impact.

    Below is a list of the roles that need to be filled, and with a brief outline of what is required in that role;

    Spares/Parts remanufacturing Coordinator.

    The role of Spares Coordinator will soon be largely redundant due to the above mentioned sale of the spares stock. This is good news in that the new person in this role will not be required to find vast storage space for the existing spares. In the future this role will concentrate on acquiring useful or rare parts and then investigating, organising and buying remanufactured or replacement parts. The role will focus on the things that owners really need to keep their cars on the road.

    Events Coordinator.

    The role of Events Coordinator does not require 100% attendance at shows the Club will attend, but it is desirable as you will be the main point of contact with events organisers and will hold the Club’s stock of flags and bunting. Organising the Club’s attendance at shows is a fairly easy process that normally involves confirming our attendance via email with events organisers.

    Treasurer.

    An important role that really must be filled. The Treasurer does not necessarily need to have any official qualifications, but you will need to be able to monitor cash flow to ensure that reserves are maintained and funds are spent in a common sense and responsible way. You will also need to complete the Club accounts prior to the AGM each year.

    Membership Secretary.

    Another crucial role that needs to be filled. You will need to print off renewal forms on a regular monthly basis to post to Members. These renewals will then need to be processed on their return. New membership applications also arrive by post and email to be processed. The membership database is accessed on-line. Paper, ink and postage costs are covered by the Club. Takes up a maximum of 1-2 hours per week, sometimes less.

    Ideally if there are volunteers for these roles, then you as volunteers would be able to step into them with immediate effect and the existing committee members will have the rest of the year to guide you through the processes and be on hand to offer training, support and advice. You would then be elected into the role at the AGM in November.

    Additionally, one of these objectives is a new website. Is there anybody here who has experience and has some good, practical and workable ideas for this project?

    We do hope that you can help us fill these important roles in order to keep the club going and moving forward for the benefit of the membership and the cars.

    Can you help?

    We've had a few members come forward to express an interest in some of these roles, but as yet there are no new volunteers lined up for these crucial roles.

    Make no mistake, the Club will struggle to deliver a worthwhile service after November if there are no volunteers. The Club has huge potential, but needs volunteers to help unlock it...all for a little bit of input each week.
