Hot weather starting - 1985 Maestro 1.6 HLS

Hello - I have a regular problem starting my 1985 Maestro 1.6 HLS in very hot weather. It seems to be OK when it starts for the first time each day but if it's then parked for a short time it won't start straight away (sometimes not for more than twenty minutes) or it stutters to a halt very soon and won't start. I think this might apparently be caused by petrol evaporating in the carburettor in the heat. I've tried blowing cold air on it with a battery powered hairdryer but I'm not sure that does anything, and also covering the engine with a blanket when it's parked (which does seem to help, but I can't be sure, and it's certainly not always effective). Does anyone have any ideas to help? Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks, Andy
