  • Hi Jake - you've waited a while for this If you can send address details I'll send it to you asap....

It was made out of aircraft quality alloy - not steel like I first thought.

Going to size it up with cam and cvh cam wheel just to make sure it fits.

      • Hi Jake - I will send cam timing details with the adapter. Please note - you'll need a small locking key as my machine shop guru couldn't find one that fitted. Could of made one but it was very late in the day.

What spec is your head just out of interest?

        • Once again mike, thankyou!
Thars fine i had loads of woodruff keys lying around lol
My head is ported heavily then polished up like chrome in all the ports, big stainless balanced valves, double valve springs, titanium caps. Fospher low resistance valve guides. The only thing left to upgrade in the head once ive done this camshaft is the cam followers, i would like a titanium version of these too plus have thesr balanced.
What spec is your head finally now? Cheers,
          J.c.

          • Hi Jake - nice spec - in hindsight I should've went for bigger valves also. My head was originally an efi spec that's been modified for turbo use. Exhaust guides were drilled out to except larger stemmed turbo valves. Triumph spitfire uprated piper valve springs - prima valve oil seals - gas flowed ported head - piper camshaft/cam wheel - 42mm spacers for T16 ARP studs. Stock valve retainers/collets. Progress at a snail pace!

            • Forgot to mention Jake - the dowel on your cam will probably need slightly modified for cam adapter to fit.

Ohh yh i did think it may need that doing, shortning i take it? Cheers,

                • Very frustrated with the lack of progress that's beyond my control guys. The chap that I use to fabricate stuff does it as a side venture to his engineering business. The trouble is all specialist work gets put to the side as he's in high demand. For example - I give them my new efi engine block to work on - to wire rung it and fit low comp forged pistons. This was done in a couple of days as that is what they do - good stuff. However - give them something that needs fabrication/TIG welded etc. could potentially take up to a year to get done! Now don't get me wrong - the guys top notch in everything he does- it's just the time they take to get the job done.

I've decided to find someone else to do the fabrication work.

Peter I know you have experience with Tigweld4u.com as your car is in the gallery section in their website. Are they reliable ?

                  • Where does the time go! I can't believe it's a year since your last update Mike. Looks like you made more progress than me though.
I can at least see light at the end of the tunnel. My eldest is 5 at the weekend, won't be long till he leaves home ;-)

                      • lol Ian I know what you mean. 385 is going for major restoration work at the end of January - god knows how long that will take in reality? Seems to be taken forever despite actually having the cash to do it - unlike before.

Thanks Peter - if I do deal with them I'll know to be careful.
