  • Head Lining Problems

Hi, am new to this forum although i've been in Maestro Club for a few years now.

I have had to lay my Maestro up because of the head lining coming away from what i think is the backing. Can anyone advise how i can remove the head lining? And also what adhesive to use to fasten it back on again?

    Thanks!

Hi Peter - sagging headlinings are a very common problem amongst these cars!

If you want a quick fix, drawing pins will do the trick! Otherwise, you can get meaterial and glue from a place called 'Woollies Trim Specialists' (do a search on these forums for Headlining). To remove the headlining is easy, all you have to do is unscrew the grab handles and sun visors, and it should just drop down. There is also a bit of trim right at the back that just unclips.

      Peter,

Repairing the headlining is a very easy and relatively cheap thing to do. It takes about four hours in total and with little effort can look good as new.

Take a look at this thread I commented on some time ago when I did my Maestro's. My username was F153JUE back then so look out for my posts in the thread

      All the best

Yup, mine has the drawing pin treatment. It certainly looks different!

So you havnt gone for the staples in the biscuit approach yet well just a warning when you take the headlining off the bisuit is usually very brittle due to age my one totally disintergrated well good luck.

Just wondering if anyone has replaced the headlining & biscuit backing with anything else!

No, there is no need (unless it is missing completely - removed by a previous owner) The problem lies with the bit that holds the fabric to the biscuit.

I find it is only extreme cases where the biscuit is knackered too - they can usually be patched up enough to get them back in the car if things like the edges are a bit battered.

                  Definately agreed, Rich.

This is an extremely easy thing to do and make a good job of so there's really no excuse for resorting to drawing pins and the like!

Just buy the cloth and some of the right glue. Hour and a half, job done.

                        Simon,

On the woolies website, exactly what glue is best to use? I found the headlining cloth, but wasn't sure of the best glue. I was looking at a spray can version but then wondered if it would be better to brush paint it on out of a tin?

                        what did you use?

                          Hi Andy,

I forget which adhesive I bought, but know that it was in the type of can you buy paint in. Apparently this is the longest-lasting of the adhesives and is also heat-resistant. If you ring them and ask they're very helpful people. Then, when you know the product code, please could you post it on the forum so that everyone knows?

                          Cheers!

The technique of applying the glue is to spread it out with a bit of card or spready thing then wait until it goes tacky before rolling the cloth onto it and smoothing it down. Smooth well into the recesses though otherwise it'll come away when it dries.

Thanks Simon, I think I'll give them a call on monday and order the material and glue up. I'll post the part numbers I'm using on here when I find them out as requested.

                            Cheers

Would a contact glue like Evostik do the job?
