  • 1987 1.6L Austin Maestro for sale

    For Sale

1987 Austin Maestro 1.6L - Burgundy; located in Newcastle Upon Tyne

    Mileage 173,546

    Tax expires 31st May 2011
    MOT Expires 31st May 2011

    Good Points:

    • Everything works as it should, everything is present as it was when it came out the factory, no naff aftermarket replacements, car could be driven away (subject to assessment of tyres as described below).

    • All historic repairs have been carried out using correct Rover / Unipart parts.

    • Comprehensive set of paper work containing most of the cars history under my ownership.

    • Car is known to the club.

    • I have owned the car since 1990 and am the second owner.

    Bad Points:

    • Rust: every panel is rusty, one of the rear arches has a hole. However rear arch / sill joins have been welded on both sides.

    • Heavy oil leak from head gasket at rear of engine (I was topping up every 200 miles).

    • Crack in windscreen (see photo)

    • Front tyres are on legal limit, spare has puncture. Rear tyres are fine. All tyres are Michelins.

    • Occasional blue smoke from exhaust at idle

    • Temperature gauge occasionally drops down during driving causing auto choke to cut in. I usually disconnect / reconnect the ECU to fix this problem.

    • Car has been parked up in my garage for a few months and one wheel has started to become stiff to rotate when driving out of the garage.

    • Handbrake needs adjusting up as it needs pulling right up to grip.

This car has come to the end of its useful life for my purposes, but may be of interest to an enthusiast. Asking Price £100.

Hiya mate if you don't get any takers and you decide to break it can I have first dibs on the steering cowl (the grey thing in two halves which the hazrard-light switch pokes out from)? Looks to be a good one.

          You heathen John!

How could you suggest such a thing?

A died in the Wool M+M owner?

Going the way of the banning stick I'd say!.

I know, it was pretty poor of me, but if the worst comes to the worst, hey at least I threw my vulture's cap in first.
Other resto-projects on here in the past have failed to find homes and only somewhat later do we find out they've been cubed whole.

My preference is for the whole car to go. I just don't have the time to take bits and pieces off and have the car continuing to take up space.

Are you going to have another Maestro or Montego to replace YBB?

Unlikely I think, for work and family related reasons.

I now have the black 1994 Saab that can be seen in some of the photos above, which has been in the family from new.

I'll be back in something British when the time comes to replace the Saab.
