A vehicle check using the DVLA's website suggests that the current car registered on this cherished registration was first registered on 1st March 1993, therefore making it registered during the K' registration period.

The registration number G986 BBH is longer recognised as being linked to a Rover or MG, so the car is probably no longer in existence.
In the deceleration section at the bottom of the front page on the registration document, it had been declaired to have been built in 1989.

It was probably registered and used overseas for the first few years.

I have a 1980/W-plate Mini that was first registered in 1984, because the first owner was a soldier who bought it and used it on a posting in Germany for a few years (back then, Forces personnel had their own vehicle registration system)

The Montego may have been in The Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Irish Republic etc
      1983 (Y) MG 1600
1985 MG EFi with digital dash (owned since 1987)
      1987 700 City 1.6 Van
      1988 Tandy camper 2.0D
1990 Advantage, just 29k on the clock
      1990 Clubman D
      1990 MG 2.0i (spares donor)
