hi all im after a 5 speed gear box for mazie as the 4 speed is just not good enouf for what i use her for

will need a good gear box

and all bits needed to convert my 4 speed

also does anyone know if the 5 speed 1.3 maestro van box will do ? as ive seen on thats seen better days parked in a bush that i might be tempted into buying for bits if the gearbox will fit

if i remember right when i converted my maestro 1.3 4speed to a 5 speed box
all i did was fit new rods as the ball sockets was a bit worn on the old one .and ajusted the gear lever travel bolt under the car in side the selector box/gaiter.

I have a 5-speed box from a 1988 1.3 Mayfair. It has done approx. 100,000 miles and had no known issues when I scrapped the car (I would have weighed it in with the car if there had been anything wrong with it).

I did not keep any linkages/selectors, though: I just disconnected the ball and socket joints.

PM me if you need any more info (I am not far from you)

sounds good to me what do you want for it?

You will also need the mount from the end of the gearbox,- they're different between 4 and 5 speed. Linkage is the same though.

From memory, once fitted, you need to put the gearbox into reverse gear before adjusting the linkage, (if it requires adjustment). I could be corrected on this point,- it was a long time ago!

The under floor selector gate housing is different for 5-speed. You need more side travel of the gear lever for 5th. Easy to modify. The shortest of the two ball-socket links is shorter for 5-speed use. Apart from a different gearbox end mounting and speedo adaption I can't remember other obsticals.

              re gear selector

nope the gear selecter shaft may need adjustment but you do not need any other parts.just that the rod/ball joint on the top of the gearbox is the shorter type

I have a gearbox mounting if you need one, standard or a van one.

According to EPC there is a difference in part number.
                  Selector housing 4-speed = DAM 6986 and 5-speed = DAM 6987
The position of the 5th gear abutment plate is further away but when parts are worn out a bit you can obtain 5th in some cases.
