They look brand new, like the blue key I dismantled to make one for CMV...
As an aside, if anyone else wants to have a blue key cut, RANGE ROVER blank MUC2153 is the correct blank. If memory serves, it's also the same as early Maestro with the central groove ending well below the plastic head.Sam Skelton

1) Safety:A bit of protection to one's kneecap in the event of a collision?
2) Protection to the key from being snapped when one's kneecap hits it (perhaps when getting in/out of the car?)
Can anybody else think of anything?
This design first appeared with the Metro range in 1980: although previous cars had used the same style of Neiman steering locks for a while, they had non-hinged key tops.1983 (Y) MG 1600

Number 2 is correct I think Paul. Of course, being a plastic top with a removable blade it's easy peasy to make a full replica key set if you're missing keys for your car!Last edited by Captain Slow; 4th September 2013, 13:50.Sam Skelton

I think it is just to simplify and speed manufacture not having to mould a key head around the key blade. The head is held onto the blade moulding with roll pins and thats why it has the potential to "bend".M&MOC Committee Member - Archivist
