Also there must be an element of stop start driving in your day; so if you do a lot of stop start then this will reduce fuel efficiency...

Choke use has a big impact. Do you do a lot of cold starts per tank of fuel? the more time the choke is out the worse it'll be.

Hi Andy , I do have early starts in the morning when its cold but to be honest I dont use the choke for long as the car does seem to need it so maybe it is the CO

sounds like it could be running a rich mixture then, as you should definitely need to use the choke for a few minutes on a cold morning... check the choke operating lever is moving freely at the carb and not sticking on. If your not sure which lever it is get someone to pull the choke while you watch the carb.

You could always try to adjust it yourself if you feel confident (theres plenty of threads if you search the forum for how to do it). I'd suggest getting it set up at a decent old school garage - or maybe a mini specialist would have a look at it for you, as they will be very experienced with the SU carb...

Have you ever taken iut or an MOT? did you see what the CO reading was when they did it?

Cheers, that's a nice Monty you have. I'm quite impressed with that sort of fuel economy from a twenty-something year old 2.0!

As am I - I mean, I may be a Yorkshireman but I don't hypermile or anything. I'm not leaden footed but there are enough people on this forum who've been in cars with me to know that I tend to drive in a 'normal' fashion!

Had a nosey on this Fuelly thing, and set myself up on it. I religiously work out my fuel consumption at every tank full anyway...so somewhere that keeps a log for me and churns out statistics sounds like it could be fun...

I got the hint from someone else, given that I do exactly the same! More convenient as a long term analysis than looking at all the fuel reciepts (Which I keep, a bit...).

Plus you can set up several cars, so you can track the whole fleet at the same time!

I think there are definitely some OCD sufferers on here lol
And I thought I'd got it bad by keeping a spreadsheet with the dates and mileages of all my cars' services and repairs.
Going to the trouble of logging fuel-consumption is far too much effort and the results would only frighten me anyway.
If I did do it though, I would still expect to be in the black by a huge margin compared to buying a new 60mpg diesel something-or-other for £200+ a month.

I DO NOT suffer from OCD. 1: I enjoy it very much, and 2: It's CDO - that way the letters are in alphabetical order!

At the end of the day, whatever history I can collate for the car is worth collating, and if it includes a long term average fuel consumption, then all the better for we Yorkshire folk!
