If its from a rover box it will be a torsen not a quaife, there were 2 types of torsen type a and type b, the types a's are a slightly better diff bit are renowned for sheering, the type b is stronger and still a good diff. I did the same with my efi box fitted an lsd, in my t16 best thing I did

Definatly looks like a quaife to me.

Certainly not a torsen type A or B.

Remember to change the speedo ring for the right one for the maestro otherwise the speedo will be wrong.

OK thanks will remember that. It is a Quaife which was bought through Demon Tweeks.

Top is the 200/400 T16 speedo ring
Middle is the 600 T16 speedo ring
Bottom is the Maestro speedo ring

The 3 types of standard diffs fitted

Left is the type A torsen fitted to 200/400 turbos
Middle is the standard open diff
Right is the type B torsen fitted to the 600 turbos (and 800 too I think).

Lots of other rebuild pics in that picture set with a few comments which may or maynot be helpful!

hope it lasts better than the torsen diffs. My vitesse (which being a 1998 had the type b) ate its diff at 110,000 miles. Did work still but very noisy when taking up drive (clonk) have used a standard 820 gearbox now. Drives quit nice little more revs on the motorway but much better around town as 5th is not so long. Spins the wheels up alot now though

If you kept the old box then it is worth recovering the diff as it is usually not the diff that is at fault. If I was closer I'd have the scrap box!
