  • A sad day

After resisting the temptation for 7 years of owning my own car, I'm afraid I've finally given in and got myself a Eurobox. I'm not proud of it, and when my Dad first offered me his old Laguna, I said "no" in disgust, but then I realised that I really need a car I can rely on. The Maestro's steering's now gone dodgy, the Minor's been in the bodyshop for 3 months and the Cortina shakes over 65mph. And I'm fed up of worrying whether I'll have a car in a suitable condition to take me on holiday, etc. Also, I need something to drive on those salty roads in the winter where I don't want to take a 'real' car!

So, I can now look forward to bigger insurance bills, a car with very little personality, and an extra car's road tax every year, but at least my transport problems are solved (and it's got a HUGE boot for booze cruises!).

However, I haven't got room for them all. Anyone want a Cortina...?!

It needs a good clean before any pictures go up, so probably in about 2 weeks I'll be able to post some. However, it's not a great car...

I'll put a full description up when I get some pics!

Look Neil, I may sound like a halfwit on valium, but you describe the Maestro in your signature as perfect. So even if the steering has gone totally tits-up can't you just get it fixed?

Perhaps my sig needs updating!!! I will get it fixed, but I'm about to take it round Europe. Last time I did that I got it "fixed" shortly beforehand which made it worse - they didn't even put the wheels on straight. Doesn't inspire confidence in my ability to go on holiday!

Admittedly I have now found a decent garage, but they specialise in classics and reckon that my Maestro's steering is a lot better than a 40-year-old MGB (which I'm sure it is) so don't want to fix it, but it's still disconcerting. I just needed another car to sort me out when the Maestro's off the road.

Anyway, the Maestro's not under threat for it's position in the drive under the cover, so it'll be OK and as I said, I need something to drive in the winter. Having spent nearly £2k in the last 2 years on bodywork, I'm not about to having it rusting away (again!). PS... anyone got a spare door skin?!

Driver's? Yes. PM me if interested.

Glad your Maestro is not under threat. I think you've done it a big favour by getting a Eurobox to rack the wet/winter miles up in. Should make it last a lot longer.
