  • 1985 Austin Maestro 1.3 L (B64 OLO)

Date of first registration: 2nd May 1985
    Colour: Arum White
Engine & Gearbox: 1275 cc A+ with Auto Choke & 4 Speed VW Gearbox
    Purchased: June 2012
    Approximate mileage: 39,500

My First Maestro... 10 years after learning to drive in our (now scrapped) Montego DSL Turbo.
Paintwork isn't perfect but definitely presentable. Grade 3 Faracla brought out most of the dirty rust marks on the paintwork (which felt like it hadn't seen soap or even non-rain water for 5 years! I need to give it another go, but my arms ache. Also gave the wheels a quick wire brushing and blow over with paint to smarten them up a little.

Worst bits are the OSR arch corner and the passanger door which i will rub down and paint soon.

This aint a bad little car IMO especially now it's running right (new choke ecu, o-rings, temp sensor etc sorted that out.

Used for work everyday, still a few little bits to do but I'm happy. But it has just made me want a Montego though!

I've got a lot of old car badges i collected when i was a kid, but for some reason not a single Maestro one...

The PO had taken em off and put em in his bedroom?!? Prob hoping I wouldnt ask for them.. but I did! Back on now so all well (I changed teh Maestro one he had though because it was the old style and the Austin script was the newer style and I wanted matching.

That really is lovely, Mark. Reminds me of my first car, A753 NJA - gosh, that was nearly 8 years ago

Do keep me in mind when you decide to get rid, eh!?

A soon as I find a reasonably priced Austin Montego I shall be looking to move it on but I will prob need to sell it before due to 'er indoors giving the green-light to only so-much fund allocation lol.

Having said that though... It's a cracking little thing to drive, I genuinely enjoy it. The steerings so light on those thin tyres . Adam (prev owner who ruffled a few feathers round here and had no time for the car) said to me after i'd bought it.. if you ever want to sell it and get it running right, let me know i'd be interested! ermm no.

This will be for sale shortly as I have a company vehicle on it's way.

I've put 1600 miles on it so far, been genuinely great

now i own her and she is better than described ive done over 600 miles in her since i bought her and never misses a beat (apart from a dodgy starter motor ) but i knew it was on its way out when i bought it so no loss there as she is worth spending a few quid on as all brakes done and gonna have some fun with her over the next few years
