  • Pothole

Found this on MSN a few days ago. Is it what I think it is in that hole? Looks like a quarterlight on the rear door and no scallops...

Mark 1 Ibiza designed by Guigiaro, based on a Fiat Strada floor pan with short overhangs with Porsche designed engines. Guigiaro often recycled his rejected designs. The Daewoo Matiz was his rejected replacement for the 90s Fiat Cinquecento, Fiat just did a not very good facelift instead. I think that the Ibiza looked a lot like an updated MK 1 Golf which he also designed. I always thought the styling was neat and understated with lots of space, and good visability. In fact if you were to add scallops down the side it would look quite familiar.

Not a car I can remember seeing many of. Even the dash has a similar style to the Maestro.

Maybe the tooling was sold to one of the Chinese car companies that didn't own the Maestro!

Better than the Spanish built Fiats they used to turn out although the Seat 133 was interesting. Just like Skoda though, once VW took charge they went from strength to strength.

I think that Ibiza design would have made a nicer Mk2 Golf than the design VW went with. It is more stylish and doesn't have the blind spot causing rear pillar.
