I also drive a 'tractor' on the road most days, and believe me almost every other road user sees me as enemy number one

The worst piece of driving I ever saw was an idiot 'undertake' me on a long lay-by

oh yes and the local postie who hangs on to my trailer post given half a chance......

This used to be perfectly legal, only proviso is the presence of a warning light to show the light is in use. I am guessing that this hasn't been made illegal since .

Interesting to note comments about blind spots increasing on modern cars - I was thinking this myself. It concerns me (a bit  - I'll never buy a modern car, nor drive one unless forced to)!

Also, people commenting that "bikes appear from nowhere..." the main thing is that you notice them in good time to avert some disaster !

To counter your arguments about those 'nasty  ' motorbikes, though, spend some time on a motorbike (pillion is fine) - and see how it works from the other side. It is an interesting counterpoint - motorbike riders can see much more than you can while sat in your car, but if you only ever drove a car you'd not realise how much they can see. If a biker doesn't see/notice you, it hurts when he hits you... I reckon riding a bike (of any engine size) makes one into a better car driver (in terms of better anticipation, appreciation of road surface grip changes and so on).

Bikers may seem 'a bit mad' but their better view, coupled to their bike's superior acceleration and brakes, means they can easily 'go' for gaps that a car would never get remotely near. Just that this appears intimidating to a car driver who's never experienced it from the seat of a motorbike. Bikers ain't bad riders at all overall, just the few of them that we remember...

You should try to drive a bus, see how much repect you get.

Yesterday I was at QMC Island heading for the A52 (anybody know Nottingham?). On leaving the Island to go up Adams Hill when this moron in a Disco decided to pull out just I was level with him. Traffic was almost stationary. I gave him a blast on the horn and he just ignored it and carried on!!!! There must have been a fag paper in it.

Almost all car drivers cut me up and pull out in front of a bus. it's that attitude that 'I can't get stuck behind a bus, got to beat it.' What these people don't realise is that most of our fleet has CCTV fitted. So if there is paint samples taken it's all on video. Also what these idiots forget is that if my bus gets bent, they'll bring me another I won't lose my NCB either.
