I should have added that the plan is for the committee to come over for a whole weekend and do that cataloguing. I wasn't going to even TRY to do it all on my own! I want my van out of the rain some time this century!

Racking is also planned, and I know just the place on Ebay that does bulk deals of reasonably-priced stuff that will fit perfectly between the piers on the garage wall.

What ever way round you do it .You must at least make a list of each part/photo it before it goes into the new garage .Because once its in there you will find it hard to move parts round again.I think you will find the garage isnt as big as you thought.

Why just the committee? It is a members club, so why not try to actively involve everyone?

Organised correctly a whole weekend of it could be made, with a drop in session of people helping. BBQ in the evening, etc, etc.

There is no point in cataloguing though if certain requirements are not in place as Dan has mentioned.

Do we have insurance for all our parts now by the way?

Maria - you have my deepest sympathy, your living space is seriously compromised.

Everybody else in the club (I'm not and don't plan to be) - why are you letting the above situation, why should Maria live like that, why should her dad have to spend his time and money building the storage?

Get yourselfs organised, get down there and help get it finished! It's all well and good sugesting how the cataloging could be down but it will never happen until the roof is on, are there any builders, chippys, sparks, or painters out there?

Couple of weekends from the right people would get that garage finished.

Another couple would see everything sorted, catalouged and stored.

Get yourselves organised. And everyone who complained, feel quilty and get down there and help sort it out.

simple acknowledgment of a sent pm would be a good start,.even if its just a quick note just to say you have received it.
that take very little ,but means a lot.

Looks as though I have opened a can of wirms!

I'm not 100% sure but we have another unit in Kent & think there is some racking up there that we would sell cheaply along with 2 x 2 post workshop lifts & a compressor.
If any of this may be helpfull please ring our garage on 01634 388999 & ask to speak to John & say where you are from ( The M&M forum/club).

As you're 'not in the club and don't plan to be', I would politely suggest that it's probably better not to tell club members what they should be doing about a situation most of them knew nothing about.

I don't see why it is down to the Club's members anyway. It is supposed to be a central source for them to get their parts from. How can individual members help with storage? It's down to the committee, as it currently belongs to them.

Several members have offered to help go and sort it all out at a parts day, which seems like a good idea. I and others have offered to help on a number of occassions with other things as well but unfortunately the committee don't seem too keen on this.

I really hope that Maria and Chris are able to bring some parts to MG Saloon Day - maybe some items that are easily accessible of which they have many duplicates. Selling items like that would bring in revenue for the club, clear some space and please a lot of members.

So I am not totally in agreement with Steve over this because it shouldn't just be about the committee, but alas that seems to be the way.

Er I am guessing you mean stored by them not "belonged" by them. It is club members stock not the committees private stock. It isn't a business it is a club.

I am all for a parts day, I don't mind spending some time to help catalogue and place parts on racking.

I'm grateful for the offers of help, but to be honest I'd rather keep it to a committee sort-out day for a number of reasons:

                          1) I can see the process getting more confused the more people we have.
                          2) The way my house looks at the moment, I don't feel happy having guests
                          3) Until the garage is built, parking around here is limited, especially since Untied Utilities are digging up the road outside the house, effectively closing the road (think 10ft deep holes and new 6ft wide sewer pipes going in...). This might of course be all over by the time the garage is done.

I'm afraid that is currently unlikely. For starters, practically nothing is accessible, apart from some plastic trim that no one would particularly want anyway. Duplicates are another issue - we don't know what are duplicates at the moment because not everything is catalogued.

If we come to the MG Saloon day, chances are we'll have the race car on the trailer, and the car lift, and probably all the accoutrements that those entail. Space will therefore be limited, as will the weight we can carry safely, and with fuel costs how they are at the moment, and the fact that I need a V6 engine to pull all that comfortably, the prospect of bringing a load of parts on the offchance that they'll sell is not one that I relish. Mmmmm, relish

If you have any particular requirements that you want us to bring along specifically, then by all means let us know and we'll try and do something about it, but just can't justify taking a load of random stuff down. I wouldn't have a clue what to bring anyway!

Well members have to buy these parts before they can have them and as such, stock is currently owned by the Club (i.e. Committee). Because people are paid members, it doesn't give them free rights to the stock. A member of staff at a supermarket wouldn't be expected to privately store a load of stock, would they.

Yeah, almost! The parts are owned by the Club, not the Committee. It's the Committee's responsibility to disseminate the parts but they don't belong to us (even if they do fill some of our houses!).
