  • Greetings from Belgium

Hallo everybody, I'm Chris from Belgium. I used to have a 4 speed 1600cc Maestro but got rid of it when I got a new company car, I live in a town centre so it would have meant leaving it out on the street. I am actively looking for a LHD model again, preferably an MG version but I guess I'll have to probably take what's available. Belgium has a long association with BL cars, there used to be a Triumph factory in Mechelen where I live and another, an Austin plant in Seneffe, they made Minis & I think Allegros. I also had 2 Montegos, 1 x 1600cc and the other a 2 litre, one of the last ones made. The plan is to buy one, do whatever restoration work is needed and travel to the UK (or elsewhere)for club events. When I had my Maestro it used to attract Japanese tourists who used to ask me to take photos of them standing next to it. They used to put their arms over the bonnet a bit like putting your arm around your friends shoulders!!
Anybody in continental Europe know of any Maestros for sale with left had drive please let me know. Sorry this is a bit of a long intro, will keep messages shorter in future.

        Hi Chris,

welcome from a fellow continental Maestro driver.

There are a couple of options on LHD Maestros available that I am currently aware: There is a 1987 Mayfair 1.6 for sale in the Netherlands, price needs to be negotiated, but it has been restored completly 2000 (british racing green metallic). Then there might be an early Maestro MG EFi available here in Aachen, original and quite good condition, that the owner has not used for some time, so he might be willing to sell it on.

And then - finally - I would have a very rare German spec 1.6HLS from 1984 on offer. But it needs a brave man to restore, it drove well, but has some rust and a cracked windscreen amongst other smaller defects. This one would be free to anyone restoring it, otherwise I will probably keep the engine for my MG 1600 as a spare...

There are also 2 Maestros currently on www.marktplaats.nl (search for Austin within the Autos page).

Although I joined 9 years ago because of lots of reasons I have only just bought my Maestro and am now a fully paid up member, so hi there (again). I spent 6 months this year looking for one, there were some in France, Italy & Spain. Eventually I bought an MG Maestro 2.0 EFI in Spain. 125.000 kms drives OK, bodywork is superb no rust at all (well, 1 tiny bit on rear tail) We start doing the usuals next week and expect to roaring around Belgium in August.
