  • mg maestro turbo fuel tank

    Does anyone know if the maestro turbo fuel tank is the same as the EFI ?also has the maestro tank a swirl pot built in? and is this necessary in view of being able to use the EFI tank? lastly is either the montego EFI or turbo tank the same.

    My Turbo has a fuel tank from an efi montego-I replaced it iwhen I restored the car and I think it was a straight swap.

      Hi

      Both EFI and Turbo systems utilise a swirl pot in the fuel tank.

        turbo tank

        hi chaps, thanks for that,does anyone know who,if anyone can clean out a tank or re-treat it? internally, the outside is perfect,but the problem is top of it is rusty, are there any specialist people that anyone knows who does this, many thanks nd

          frost do some tank treatments that coat the internals. However you'd need to remove the fuel pickup/gauge etc first though!

            I could be wrong here but I can't see coating the inside of the tank being successfull due to the swirl pot and pick up & return pipes all being part of the integral construction of the tank.

            If the swirl pot got too much coating settled in it, the vortex effect could be negated, this would cause hot fuel being fed back to the engine. Even if you could get access to plug the return pipe to prevent sealing fluid blocking it, it could still end up being restricted by a build up of sealer in the swirl pot. To remove the pick up pipe involves phsically cutting it out and then welding it back in.

              Thanks ETV & G FORCE, as my tank is off my low mileage car,i was hoping to get it treated, would you recommend welding back in? and do you have the e/mail address for FROSTS ? I also thought that there is no guarantee with a 2nd hand tank, that it is any good ? thanks ND

                I've never done it so not sure how sucessful it'd be. You'd need to be careful not to block any pipes or the swirl pot (which is usually just a tub with some small holes at the bottom).
