  • maestro montego turbo ignition ECU

ive just aquired a turbo ecu ADU8479 and was after some info on it

it will be used on a 2 litre turbo project at a later date but till then i may try it on a smaller turbo engine.

does any one know what the max boost these will adjust to? and once programmed at the factory is it a done deal or can its memory be accessed like later ECUs like MEMS?

    any help be great nath

The ecu will retard ignition up to 22psi and flat-line after that. You can get the engine to boost further with lower compression better intercooling etc. I know of a maestro turbo that boosts to 26psi with 300bhp on tap with stock ecu. Anything after that will be compromised to some degree or another - best throw ecu in bin and go for a programmable type.

22psi ! Thats pretty decent. I wont be running that much, at least on the smaller engine. I am gathering parts to put a 16v t series head on to a princess O series block and gearbox to go into an Allegro. Ill probably use an L series diesel crank rods and pistons to get the compression to where it needs to be. Id of thought this setup be quite strong. I intend to keep using a carb to keep it simple and use the ecu to do the timing.

trying to clean up the wiring loom for this ecu, it has another multi plug attached to it, what's this for? is it the connection to the rest of the car harness?

Aren't the early O series engines the opposite way round to the later ones?

The Maestro / Monty O-series are the opposite way to the Original O-series M-series T-series cylinder head wise.

i found out the hard way when i bought a montego turbo head and tried to put it on the O block. with the oil n water ways lined up the 4 outer head bolts didnt. turn the head 180 degrees and the Head bolts line up but nothing else does.

so i bought head gaskets the next time to find a match. T series lines up everything but 2 outer head bolts on the original O block. should be plenty material in the head to move the holes over.

Sounds a very interesting project, is the princess gearbox up to the job?
I've heard of a couple of people who have used that box in minis with rover V8s so it must be quite strong.
How does it fit height wise as the T series is pretty tall especially with a carb mounted at the front

At the moment, with its standard head its shorter than the E series Maxi engine (i have one and a spare engine) from what i can tell.

the T series head, im hoping wont be much taller than the O. As far as inlet goes i'll probably either have to adapt half a T series manifold with a piece of ally box section bolted or welded to it and the SU flange in the middle.

and gear box wise, as said ive seen and heard of RV8 lumps bolted to them, but nothing said about the box spec. to be honest from what ive seen of the setup in the box, it resembles a large scale A series box. i guess the first thing would be to uprate the Diff like the mini boys do and go from there.

I wonder if the m series multi point manifold would fit, loose the plenum and adapt it to take a pair of downdraft Webber's. Failing that a single point one could be modded to take a single downdraft

Im more inclined to use an SU as I have the turbo one already and the Maestro T3 turbo too. Do people run Efi on their Maestro or Montego turbos using the MG Efi systems? Or would the Ecu be too primitive to adjust for the extra fueling needed?

                      You'd need aftermarket management really.
