  • Tacho stuck around 3500 rpm?

I've had my TD running in the converted petrol car and the rev counter goes straight to 3.5k?

There was a rev counter in the old donor car which I still have but as this has gone from petrol 1.6 to diesel do I need to convert the dials or something else.

Its this car if that helps.

Yes you do. The petrol 1.6 rev counter was designed, like all rev counters in petrol cars, to work off the coil (-) terminal. Diesel rev counters take their signal from the W terminal on the alternator. The petrol rev counter won't read properly if you do that, it will read roughly two or four times too fast, can't remember which off hand. You need the innards of the rev counter from a Land Rover classic with diesel engine and instruments similar to our cars. How have you connected yours?

Yep, it's wired to the W terminal on the alternator. And then directly to the loom.

Excellent, you're half way there, it's just an innards issue then. A L-R rev counter innards should see you right, and open the flood gates for other derv MM to fit rev counters! Use a dinner fork to pull the instrument needles off. Let us know how you get on...

Will do, I'll pop the dash back out to see what the unit looks like then start searching the bay of e for a suitable replacement.

It looks like a disco 200tdi will do. The only concern I would have is changing the dial face!
