My Van is running lumpy on tickover and is running rich. I havnt had any experience with the SU HIF44 type carb only having worked on the older type fitted HS 2 and 4,s as fitted to Minis etc. It is not the electronic control type and is manual choke. Are there any common problems on these type (i.e. worn jets etc) that I shoud be aware of that could be causing it to run rich?. Air Filter is new. I noted that the heated manifold has been by passed as the steel pipes that fit in the alloy manifold are badly corroded. The Haynes manual seems only to deal with setting up the electric choke model so no luck there. Any advice greatly appreciated.

The carb is usually very reliable but vacuum leaks cause people to try to tweak them giving lots of headaches.
Make sure all the vacuum system is top notch before delving into the carb.www.maestroturbo.org.uk - The Tickford Maestro Turbo Register

yes check all the vacumme hoses to and from the carb if they are split change them as just cutting them they will soon split again as the rubber has gone rotten also the connector pipe rubbers from the distributor they split as well
