Different radiator sizes?.

Have seen on e-bay radiators for sale and one was stated to fit an MG Maestro and a 2.0Turbo diesel.
Does anyone know if there are different sizes and types of radiators for Montego or Maestros or are they all similar with the same part number?.

Later engines are all the same height, but different widths between 1.3, 1.6 and 2.0. I'm fairly sure these are interchangeable though if you want extra cooling.

The main radiator-related pitfall is that early 1600s had a deeper front centre panel so their radiators are not as high. I had lots of fun trying to find a shorter one for my 1600 last time

Thanks Maria, I'm not wanting one at the moment but can forsee that with the origional one still fitted it will soon need one.
Looked at spareshq on the web and they list one for the TD and give dimensions.
However checking these against mine they didn't match the precise measurements and wondered why.
Usually in the past I have taken radiators in to Derby radiators and had a new core fitted which is virtually the equivalant of a new one.

Usually a recore is just as good as you say so long as you've not got serious corrosion problems, and a TD radiator isn't put under as much load as petrol ones are.

In Bury (my home town) there is a Radiator Specialist that was affiliated to Serck Marston when said company was in existence (they've been taken over since), but the place has an equally good reputation now and I've always been happy with them... try your local radiator specialists (names from the Thomson Local or yellow Pages) or ask a local garage you trust who they use for new radiators - wasn't Serck Marston based in Nottingham (they did all the recon rads for the british-built Toyotas [Avensis, Carina, etc.]?

You'll find a few good places that can recore your existing radiator I have no doubts at all... but is it worth getting one from a Scrapyard and getting that recored NOW 'just in case'? It'll get you to work the next day when the inevitable happens... must get me blown spare 1600 rad sorted out, it occurs to me...
