  • No Electric Windows All of a sudden!

I got into my Maestro VP yesterday and tried to operate the front windows, expecting them to operate faultlesly as they've done up till now. However, it was not to be! Both of my windows are remaining steadfastly up.

The fuse is intact but I've not had time to examine this issue any further so was wondering if there are any known faults that might cause this.

Personally I suspect either the fuse box or the switch unit. Is either of these known to have problems that could result in this malady? Is there a relay elsewhere that controls the one-touch-down feature?

    Cheers!

Mine sometimes get"sticky" - a firm tap on the door card usually helps!

Are all the other circuits working?

There are 4 fusable links under the sheath coming from the positive battery terminal. these protect the major circuits and to replace need new ones soldered in place.

Thanks for that insight. As far as I know, all the other circuits are working correctly. Any ideas what else is on the same fusible link as the windows?

To be honest I need to spend a little time with a multimeter to work out where the fault is. I was just wondering if there was a classic fault that causes this problem.

It's a bit suspicious that both windows stopped working at the same time, isn't it?

Points finger supiciously at switch unit...You can't really DIY much with them even though the curcuit board is fairly primitive. Both my front elec windows also have a curious fault in that both of them will not go down fully. Both stop about 2" of fully down. Once again I suspect the switch unit.Trouble is, mine is the ultra rare 5 switch variety... To verify that it isn't the regulators, remove door card, unplug the regulator connector and apply battery voltage. The windows should go up/down fully depending on polarity.

            windows

I can't believe I just read that! Joe's windows and the radio died on Monday morning!! I pulled out both 30 amp fuses - both fine, so I replaced them exactly as was. Turned on the igniton and all systems burst into life - no further problem. Bizarre. Also the oil pressure light has been giving intermittent 'ons' ever since I banzaied up a hill in Devon in the spring.
Last Saturday I removed switch took off the lead to the point where it joins the main loom, put it all back together -guess what? right, the light stays off!! How can going up a hill in third at full bore upset a switch for three months? Ah the fun of driving a Maestro!

Jeez! I tried the switches today and they're working as normal again....

I wonder how long this will continue?!

Ha ha, the windows stopped moving in the down position when I went out at lunchtime today so after an afternoon praying it didn't rain I nipped home and raided the switch unit from the scrap car I got last weekend...

That solved the problem and my windows now work again.

I'm betting it's probably dirty relay connections because the car stood for so long before I took possession of it. I'm going to take the switch unit apart and if I find anything interesting I'll post pictures....

When I had A335 had window problems - was cured by installing new switches. They would go down but not up, and one kept blowing a fuse!

The relays etc are easy to clean with very fine wet and dry once the cover of the unit is removed. Undo the 4 turnolock screws and pull the facia of the unit away. Spray with contact cleaner.

Ahh, the old Maxi relay. I remember making those. Also I used to make DCP 8988 heated rear window timers.
