  • Montego Estate Rear Shock Absorbers

Hello All. I need to replace the original self levellers on my Montego estate for MOT. Rather than trying to source new self levellers, I am going to fit standard shocks and springs. I have ordered these, but need to know if I can use the tops of the old self levellers to complete the new units? If not, how will I be able to fit the new shocks and springs? Thanks

I also interested in such information, because I bought the springs and standard shocks for my Montego. Would someone help?

Should be able to use the original top spring seats Ed.

Obviously I would fit new bushes at the same time.

make sure to inspect your original spring seats for fractures around the edge of the central aperture where the strut rod comes through, as it's a known week spot in old spring seats.

You need a collar to go between the spring cap and the piston. Otherwise the metal of the cup is too weak and will smash through before long. With most aftermarket shocks these are supplied.
