  • Poorly MG Montego!

I am having problems with my 1986 MG Montego and am looking for ideas please. When driving the car as soon as the clutch pedal is depressed the car stalls. I have had this problem for a while but now the car is really running rough as well. On one occasion when the car stalled the radio went off and i am wondering if it is an electrical problem. The car has had new ht leads and a coil but this has not cured the problem which appears to be getting worse. Any ideas would be welcomed please!.

    thanks

1st i thought this was exsesive endfloat...but i wonder if its a lot more simple....you had the gearbox off at all?
check the earth connections or clean them up ,
battery to body and body to engine earth straps.

Carrying on from what Tony suggested, try removing the 2 spade connectors from the reverse gear switch on the gearbox. Then repeat your test. If it still happens, almost definitely not electrical, if goes away, almost definitely electrical.

      Good luck,
