  • my Montys lack of power

    why does my monty struggle at high speed in 5th gear. Even going up the slightest bit of a hill, the speed starts to drop off and I have to then drop down to 4th and floor it to keep the speed up.

    Blocked air filter. Or blocked fuel filter. Or...
    Driving into strong headwind..
    Handbrake still on...

          You could check that the ORFCO valve is not sticking open. Check you are getting full throttle. Try removing and cleaning the dashpot and piston with carb cleaner, then reset the carb mixture setting.

            i would try cleaning plugs as well i had same trouble with my non efi vp whern i got it plus the carb could need a good clean .

              I find putting super unleaded in the tank improves the overall performance of my 1.6L Maestro, compared to ordinary unleaded.
              Burgundy 1987 Maestro 1.6L
              173,000 miles.
