Has any Body Fitted a ZR 160 Engine in to Maestro?

  • #2
    Rover did (sort of)

Rover built about 150 Montego's with the 1.4 K series, before the Rover 214 was launched, to help with testing. So it must fit under the bonnet. The required running gear is all out there.

They may well have ended up being scrapped when development work had finished, due to Type Approval issues.

there were alsosome fitted with 2 litre 16v engines of both O and M series.

I personally wouldnt fit a K series especially the VVC type due to the head gasket failure rate

As said the K series mules were maestro/montego. So they'll physically fit. An interesting and fun car at the end of it too as they'll be nice and light.

But they rev and rev. Lighter and pokier than an A series too!

Actually a non VVC 1.8 K engined Maestro would be an interesting proposition.
In ZS120 tune the 1.8K develops 160nm of torque at only 2750 rpm and 117 ps hp.

Very similar output to the 2.0i 'O' series?

And HGF every 50K, i dont mind the K series just not a great fan lost all confidence when our 160s head gasket went and far to complex for what it is. We still have it but i much prefer the efi to drive

Headgaskets aren't that bad once replaced with the uprated items.

                            1.4 was bullet proof

I remember when the K series came out, it was very reliable. Very very reliable by Austin Rover standards. I don't remember any negative reports at all. Of course that all changed when the 1.6 and 1.8 versions came out. It is strange it was never sorted out under B*W ownership.

I just prefer the reasuring cast ironness of older engines
