  • What 16" wheels fit over the MG TF four pot callipers?

As above, what wheels fit over the MG TF four pot callipers? I currentaly have the 11 ones but have twisted one on a trackday befor and i think i might have twisted another one just with hard cornering on the road. Im needing something that is going to be a bit stronger.

    Thanks
    Ben

Dose anyone know if these fit over the four pot callipers? They look stronger than the 11 spoke ones if they do.

These wheels are the 16-inch 'Abingdon Cup' design that were offered on the MGF and later TF. They were fitted as standard on the 2002 TF 'Cool Blue' special edition so, unless there were changes in the specification of brake calliper used on certain versions of the TF', they should theoretically fit without any issues of compatibility.

Unless anyone knows differently, I would say that they will be no difference in the tolerance/strength of these wheels over the 11-spoke desgn, as all MG and Rover alloy wheels (excluding possible off-the-shelf items not produced exclusively for MG Rover Group) will have been designed to meet the same standards of tolerance.

Just to add my experience here as an MGF Trophy 160 owner and fitting wheels.

The Abingdon Cup wheels will fit over the 4-pot red MG branded calipers BUT ONLY with the use of spacers so not ideal.

Amongst MGF/MGTF owners the eleven spoke wheels do enjoy a reputation for being "soft" and easily flatted/bent/buckled so your experience with these is not unusual.

The only other 16" original MG-Rover wheels with the required clearance are the MGF Trophy 11 spokes which are subtley different to the ones you have (smooth joint between spoke and rim) and the very rare and expensive Ultra-Lightweight wheels which again are 11 spoke and similar to the Trophy wheels but give a slightly wider track when fitted.

        HTH.

To give more choice of wheels you can use adapters. These are made for the MGF but will, of course, fit the Maestro & Montego. They are available from Mike Satur or B&G.
