  • Brake upgrade

I'm thinking about brake upgrades for my R series MG maestro, what are my options? From what I understand MGF brakes won't fit under 15" wheels? I currently have solid discs, could I simply bolt on vented discs for a later maestro?

    Thanks, Josh.

That would be the easiest upgrade. You would need vented calipers too though as the discs are wider.

Okay, so do all post 85 cars have vented setups? I've also heard about using corrado discs, is that a simple thing to do?

no, all 2 litre cars do, so o series or diesel.

For the golf discs you need to fit caliper spacers which you will need to fit mgf alloys to be safe on clearance for.

Only the bigger engines got vented brakes (2 litre, 1.6MG I think).

Venteds will feel exactly the same as the ones you have now but shouldn't overheat as fast.

Otherwise the PAW upgrade uses the original calipers spaced out further from the hub and bigger vented discs (285mm). These still fit under the OE alloys.

The AP 4 pots will fit under bigger wheels but are probably more work again as you need to skim the discs down to fit.

Diesels often have solids still! (well my vans did anyhow! - Scary.)

Maestro 15 inch alloys will fit over the corrado discs with no spacers.
