  • Aviva ad - spotted

Just winced, as I saw an Azure blue MK1 Maestro run into a MK2 Cav.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMNl8kL5WMo

Looking at the Cav's dodgy respray I'm assuming the Maestro wasn't great either...

Saw it last night too - bit of a surprise to say the least! OSF tyre of Maestro looks a bit soft anyway before the accident...

Simon's third printscreen is why it soesn't bother me. Look at the damage - both cars have been thwacked with a lumphammer, NOT crashed. The plastics would be all over if it had been done properly.

Both should be salvagable. And as it happens, as I type this reply it's on the telly...

Hmmm. I doubt the production company would have been interested in repairing the two cars after probably buying them for less than a grand.

Can anybody remember seeing the Maestro for sale recently? (those hubcaps may be a clue)

Incidentally, the registration number on the Cavalier is currently assigned to a gold 1985 Mercedes estate

Maybe it could be worth a call to Avviva customer services?

1985-87MY Maestro L with an Osprey interior? Alas, I can't remember seeing it! Not even in another colour! Looks like a MK1 dash so I'm assuming 85-early 86.

I'm fairly sure late MK1s had them, as they came in during 85 and the MK2 Maestro was 86.

I like it - they could have chose an Escort or a Golf Mk2 to represent the typical 80s car, but they went for a Maestro... And at least it's not been the stereotype rust bucket! If anything this should be viewed as good free publicity!!

Its a shame its been crashed, but even if it had not been put on the advert it probably would have gone down the non-ethusiast banger for a year then scrap route.

I Imagine it's been crushed by now to be honest, it'll just have gone to a scrap yard - sat there for a bit and been dispached.

I bet both cars were scrapped before the ad even went to air. The cost of the cars would have been a small fraction of the total cost of the advert and therefore completely disposable.

Looks like a bit of mutant, not certain its a mk1 dash, but it has the wide rubbing strips but no locking fuel flap
