  • Legacy EPC on Windows 10 anyone?

    Hello,

I've blown the dust off the InfoMill EPC (I still find it useful) and it doesn't work on modern OS'. For me that is not a problem as I can spin up a Virtual Machine etc. I suspect many other people on this forum can as well, but for those who can't, I've created a VM that can be run with free software etc.

It boots and automatically launches the EPC. No knowledge of the IT 'dark-arts' needed. No need for clock change.

Would anybody want a copy? Infomill on 64-bit Win 7/8/10 or god forbid - OS X useful?

If it appeals let me know and I'll provide install instructions with a download link (need a mod to give me a nod on the latter)

    Mat.

P.S : I've left a lot of technical details out to avoid confusion. My day job is Virtualisation

Hi i would be very interested in your help to get an EPC working on Windows 10, i've been completely unsuccessful to date. It would be very useful for me to look up parts i need for my cars.

This is how I do it, I run a virtual machine running XPmode.

Nowt wrong with that It might just be my build etc, but I found that running infomill under XP, the fonts didn't render correctly (hard to tell difference between P and F for example) and I had to roll the clock back to 1999 every time.

I built a Win95 VM - It renders perfectly and it's quite happy with the date being 2015!?!?

It's a shame MS in their infinite wisdom have discontinued support for XP mode, so you have activation issues etc under Hyper-V. I really wish they would release a "legacy" version without activation etc. There are so many 16-bit apps out there people need still.

              Hi Guys and Gals,

I have uploaded an iso image of the disk in theory you can use this to burn a physical cd or if you are using XPmode you can 'mount' the file as a cd drive.

DMs with links sent after this If this was my website, I would publish the links without hesitation, but as there could be (admittedly sub-minuscule risk) copyright issues I'll wait for a nod, or get around to setting up a website hehe

Anybody else want them, drop me an DM/IM and I'll send them over.

OK, you will get two links.

                VMWare Player

Just download and install. Click Yes / OK / Next etc etc. (Apple Mac users can use VMWare Fusion, but that's at a cost)

                Infomill.zip

Download it and extract (Once downloaded e.g. to desktop, right click it and select "extract all" etc). You should have an Infomill folder with 5 files in it.

Open VMware player from the start menu (ignore upgrade message), select "Open an virtual machine"

Browse to the infomill folder created earlier , select the infomill file. You can now select the InfoMill VM and hit Play.

Hit "I copied it" when prompted and "remind me later" to the Tools Upgrade message. Remember that the mouse gets captured and you have to press ctrl-alt to release the mouse.

Party like it's 1995. You can use this for any other ancient software you have.

                      Hi Mike,

I can tell that your running that on Windows 7 or above. This software was probably written for Windows 3.1, forget it on modern versions of windows.

You will need to use XP Mode as gharper is, or you can use the Windows 95 VM i've made. Whatever works for you best, nothing wrong with choice

                      I'll send you a PM.

At first couldn't get any of the virtual machines mentioned on this thread to work on windows 10. Then I tried Oracle VM VirtualBox and it works. This thread is very helpful - thanks guys for sharing the downloads and info much appreciated.

On the basis that gharpers link hasn't been taken down so far

XP runs fine on Oracle Virtualbox, Win95 doesn't unfortunately.
