  • Repairing holes in the exhaust boxes

Both the boxes on the Maestro have a small hole in the, in the middle underneath, the rest of the pipes seem ok. Is there any way they can be repaired/patched as the normal repair bandage seems to be for the pipes, not the boxes?

Or has anyone got a spare exhaust for a Maestro 1.6 Auto?!

Fill the holes with silicon sealant (I use the pound shop stuff as it is cheaper), put a cut up piece of bean tin over the patch, tie this on with whatever sort of metallic wire you can find in the pound shop (usually zinc in ours), then apply more silicon around the patch. Leave overnight & hey presto, a flexible repair.. If you want to make it look more professional use a bit of galvanised steel instead of the bean tin and a couple of long jubilee clips to hold it on, or a few short ones joined together. The longest I've seen a repair like this last so far is 4 years...

If you are going to use silicone use the stuff that's OK for UPVC window frames. The standard bathroom stuff that smells like vinegar uses acetic acid to cure that will make your repair rust out underneath faster.
