Only things needed to be put on now are
Radiator
Main fan
Slam panel
Rear metal coolant pipe
Inlet manifold
Carb
Heat shield
Complete exhaust
Then put some petrol in it, battery on it and try to start it up.
Then rear bumper
Change rear boot panel
Replace nearside door mirror
Replace dash
Re-cover headlining
Put proper wheels on it
BIG clean up
So getting there slowly
The car will then have a couple of things welded then go in for its MOT, the first for a number of years

This arrived yesterday, a brand new rear water pipe for an MG Montego/Maestro Turbo.
I will be putting on my last spare stainless steel pipe though as more copies can made from an original.
I have 4 turbo carbs to be cleaned and when they are done one of them will be on the car. I have found a radiator in my spares for it so that will also be put on next time i'm there in December to get it started

Got some more things done in this today.
Tried to put the water pipe on first and....nope, had to remove the exhaust manifold, put the pipe on and re-attach the manifold.
Re-attached the inlet manifold and spotless inside carb

Put charged battery on
Turn key and turn over engine.
Put 2 gallons of petrol in the dry petrol tank
Turn over engine........
Put a little petrol down the carb
Turn over engine and ......nothing
No spark
Check coil lead on distributor and still no spark
Change ECU
Turn over engine and...... spark
Put a little petrol down the carb
Turn over engine and.....it's springs to life after 17 years laid up the car starts
No fuel getting to the carb from the tank so...
Put a little petrol down the carb
Turn over engine and.....jesus it's LOUD with no exhaust when it fires up
Fuel pump looks as though it's knackered so will replace that next time and it sounds as though it's running on 3 plugs so will look at that.
Chuffed though that it starts after 17 years.
Edit, the simple things I didn't try was the fuel pump relay and cut off switch behind the dash so before I change the pump I will check first. Doh

Hoping to tick somemore boxes off the long list next week.
Been too long since progress moved forward so I must try to get more time on it.
Dropped a working fuel pump off last time I was at Mals barn and its got fuel in it so hoping to get it running

Well 2 steps forward and one back
Fitted the replacement fuel pump and the car started and ran for awhile then died. I notice an oil leak under the engine and the oil pump is leaking out oil from the top.
Filled it back up but the car wouldn't start. Cleared the fuel pipes and tried again, ran for 15 minutes then stopped and wouldn't start again so maybe something wrong with the fuelpump as petrol stopped getting to the carb.
After it ran for that time the oil pump was gushing out oil so a replacement will have to be sourced.

theres always a few tears before the satisfying purr of a well looked after engine
Doesn't sound very smooth without an exhaust connected
I have a replacement oil pump on my spare engine but can't get the pulley off. What tool is best to get the dam thing off as I will also need it for this engine?

I managed to get to the barn on sunday but only managed to move the car to a better area.
Crank pulley still wouldn't come off though I did manage to extract it about 1/4 in.
Then met Chris and his Mrs, nice people, then sorted some parts out for John before I had to go.
As the block that I'm removing it from is cracked I will be grinding the crank pulley off in November when I'm next there. That'll get the buggar off
