  • 1993 Maestro 500 City 2.0D Van

    Hi all,
Have always had Montegos (for the past 20 years), either as daily cars in the early years, and then as fun/hobby cars.

One interesting bit of info about me.... I came up with the name 'Monstro' for the magazine when I suggested to Jonathan that the club should include Montegos all those years ago

Anyway, after selling my 34k Montego LXi last year I have come back into MM ownership with this beast. Its a basic 2.0D City, but has PAS, which is great. Just needs some work to get it back on the road. Its mainly cosmetic and brakes. Engine starts and runs great.

I am due to get a set of rear doors, front wings and valance and a passenger door soon, so the fun will begin

The 2 red Maestros are owned by the people I bought the van from. They are available, but need work. Its in Bude, Cornwall.
They were advertised on the club Facebook page.

With the good weather here I have finally started work on the van.
Here's a few photos to be getting on with. I managed to get a new windscreen for £29 on eBay so the old one will (hopefully) be coming out next Wednesday when AutoGlass come to replace my BMW screen. I also have someone coming to do the welding on Wednesday

so far I have stocked up on Service parts (including new brakes and wheel cylinders), given the engine bay a clean as it was covered in years of grime, and fitted some very cheap Rover 200 (SD3) wheel trims to make it look a little less messy.

Heres some photos of some of the rust which will be sorted next week.
The rain gutter on the trailing edge of the rood is not as bad as it looks, and after some wire brush treatment last night looks like it will be fine with Kurust and a skim.

Last couple of photos of the rusty area's.

I have also been playing around with an LDV instrument panel, and trying to combine it with a Montego (Petrol) panel to give my van a Rev counter.

Although they are interchangeable physically (see last photo of Montego speedo in LDV panel), the wiring harness plugs will need a complete re-wire as the connections go to different areas on each panel.

Just a few pics of the donor car. I needed the interor for the van as the Vinyl seats are ripped, carpets gone, and dash full of pin holes where it was used to pin up notes.
This Montego had a good interior, but the underside was very bad, and around the filler it was very crusty. At least it helped keep a number of others on the road as the doors & bonnet were all good.

Do you want/need rear grills? I've got a pair I removed from my camper. They need re-painting/powdercoating but proper maestro fitment ones.
