  • Montego race & rally cars

Were there any Montegos that rallied or raced?

I remember a Monty estate racing in an MG series in recent years.

I heard legend of one monstrous Monty rally car:

Anyone got any pics or vid of it?

Must have been quite a sight in action

It's a shame about the Montego 6R4, a one off thats gone for good.

But maybe one day some one can do an exact copy of the original given time and cash.

Hi John - Yes, there was a Montego that rallied in the West Midland MC Championship. I think he was a Rover employee - his first name was Gary and he ran a Rover 216 afterwards. I remember him rallying in the West Mids cahmpionship. I'll have to try and thin of his name or go through some old regs. It was a Montego Saloon.

        Would that be Gary Boxall?

Did'nt he move to New Zealand and continue to rally in a Monty?

        Mal.

I agree it's a shame it had to be THAT Montego but it's gone now.

There have been two Montego estates in the MGOC championship in the past.

I believe someone was prepping a Montego saloon but IIRC the wiring loom caught fire and scuppered the project.

Shame of it was, it was all in, mounted up. I can't remember about wiring etc. But physically was all there. Just a time issue I guess.
