  • My car is a total write off

That'll be my MGZSD totally written off then.
On the A1 this morning driving at just past the speed limit when a **** in a Mazda was driving the wrong way on the duel carridgeway. Hit him head on and my car is just a tangled lump of metal now. He blamed his sat nav. 'it told me to go this way'. What an idiot.
All airbags went off and the car has no front on it now, not happy at all

Sorry to here about your accident.
        Least you`r okay.
His insurance will now pay out and hopefully the police will do him as well.
Sat navs are only as good as the person using them.

The main thing is you're OK Jeff - cars can be replaced but people can't! I think I mentioned to you that we had a nice young man drive into the back of our ZS 180 in November-only 38000 miles. Totally wrote it off. At the time we were gutted, but once the insurance came through we found another one - in effect we swapped the 38000 miler for an 18000 miler and gained a fiver! I'm sure you'll find something even nicer to replace the car if you need to.

                      Ouch! Glad you're ok, Jeff.

I'm beginning to wonder if something about Sat Navs should be added to the driving test / training or whether they should come with a prominent warning. Always amuses me on the motorway how every other vehicle has a little illuminated box stuck to the windscreen nowadays - it's almost as though we've lost the ability to think for ourselves any more.

Christs! Pleased to hear that you are not hurt and that's the main thing, looking at the pics it could have been more worse!
Satnav or not, I don't understand how anyone can join a Dual Carriageway the wrong way, unless they're P!**ed or whacked out on drugs. Hope the numpty gets what is coming to him, a driving ban for starters....

The lack of thinking for oneself and their idiocy in general (I've heard of ambulances taking a long route to the hospital with blue lights on) are precisely the reasons I have never rated satnavs. I would far rather look at a map and write myself clear and concise directions before going somewhere I didn't know. Following the dictation of an idiot box means situations like this will happen more frequently than if people learned to navigate again (Sorry to anyone who genuinely has NO sense of direction here).

Jeff, I'm glad you're OK my friend. It could be worse; if you'd had an accident in one of the Monties that big you quite probably wouldn't be here to tell us about it. A car can be replaced at the end of the day - you're the bit that's important.

Sorry to hear this, Jeff. I know the situation you're in is no consolation, but it looks like your car did it's job well and you came from it unscathed.

I should hope the other driver will be facing some sort of prosecution from the authorities for his actions. "The sat nav told me!" should never be an adequate defence for any action when you're out behind the wheel.

It seems a lot of people turn the sat nav on and turn off their brains. It's quite common to see some people stop or slow down without warning in the middle of the road or junctions whilst they consult the magic box on the windscreen, totally oblivious to the near accidents or obstructions they have just caused.

Can't really say anything other than what's already been said. I, too find his sat-nav excuse absolutely absurd. Many people have followed their directions off cliff-faces before now. People really are becoming stupid. Relying on PAS, ABS, T/C, C/C and other such 'driving aids' will see most drivers from now on having no idea how to actually handle a car.
