  • My Rover 75 Connoisseur SE V6

Picked up a bargain, today. 02 plate Rover 75 Connoisseur SE 2.0 V6 manual, in Royal Blue, with 69k on the clock. This'll take over from the Montego Mayfair as the daily runner once that is sold.

On the return trip, we called in at John Orrell's, where the car was rather well-received. Here are some photos from today.

    Makes an excellent comfortable cruiser.
My bro was also very impressed (he owns the blue ZR).

Looks very nice, especially with the optional 16-inch Union alloy wheels and finished in my favourite colour (Royal Blue metallic). To coin the Rover Company's adage from the mid 1930s, it is "one of Britain's fine cars".

Great choice - how does your Dad feel now that you have trumped his Classic SE?

Thats a lovely motor you have there. Be warned though owning one of these cars is expensive. Not that they are unreliable far from it but trying to turn it into a pre project drive one. All the best and feel free to pm me and i can let you know all about the bits and bobs with these

It looks like an expensive car but cost much less to buy and run than something German of a similar age and size.

I always think that it is a good job everything in life is not as reliable as a Volkswagen as despite the hype, they are not that good. Put 'vw gearbox failure' into Google.

Almost everyone who has seen our MG ZT has commented on what a nice car we have. People seem particularly impressed with the interior and it's size. Our car is 2004 so probably has a few bits missing but life's too short to worry about stuff like that, in my opinion.

Last weekend I did a fair few miles on the M6, M5, M55 and must've seen at least ten cars broken down, on the hard shoulder. Without exaggerating, every last one of them was German. Audis, BMWs and Volkswagens - all under ten years old.

My Dad's Classic SE is still going okay. I most certainly do not* make a habit of rubbing it in, though.

                  * - may not be strictly true.

Today I got stuck in bringing the paintwork up to standard. It has been clayed, machine-polished with Meguiar's #83 Cutting Polish and topped with their new Carnuba Wax.

It's pretty much mint aside from the odd scuff, mainly the front bumper corners.

That looks excellent for a 9 year old car! I'm glad to see that MGR must have finally sorted their 'rust' bugbear out! In fairness though, even some of the previous Rover's such as the 90s 200/400/600 seem to be fairing well (unlike BMWs and Mercs of the same era!). You still see early 90s examples in almost rust free condition. From the photos, your 75 could quite easily be a couple of years old and those interiors...... Although I prefer the MGs from the outside, I'd quite easily trade in just for that interior!

Some 'proper' photos now that the Montego has gone to its new home in Garstang and the 75 is now my daily runner.

The Rover 75 is one of those cars that lends itself to photos amazingly well. Unlike a lot of its rivals, the 75 is a car that flatters most photographs with incredible ease. There are some really nice photos here and I like how it juxtaposes with the modern glass architecture.

                        Still my favourite colour, too!

That's very true. In fact that one factor is how you can easily differentiate between a stylish design which will be admired by the next generation and a 'domestic appliance' which will be largely forgotten by the time the last car off the line is 15 years old.

I may have to end up with one for my next car but to be honest i'm not than keen on them. I don't think I could live with the petrol fuel bill, but the diesel has its weakpoints too. The V6 sounds nice but the 2 litre was a bit on the sedate side. It does sound nice when wound up though. The 75 is a heavy car. Nice on the motorway though. If only they did a diesel auto, that would be nice I reckon.
