The latest Astra is built in United Kingdom, Germany, Russia and Poland.Originally posted by Miracle maestro View PostAs far as I know it was built at Ellesmere port?
The VIN plate will tell you where it is built. All 'our' cars start with SA which is a United Kingdom prefix. SA through to SM is United Kingdom. SN-ST = Germany, SU-SZ = Poland. (I doubt any Astras built in Russia are sold in the UK).
Germany also has 'W-' prefixes. Most Vauxhalls (Opels) built in Germany and sold in the UK will have a 'W-' prefix.
Back when Vauxhall built lots of cars in the UK, they used to build, for example, four-door Cavaliers in the UK and five-door Cavaliers were imported from Belgium or Germany.
I suspect something similar happens with the Astra in that the range will be split so that Ellesmere Port is producing a subset of the range and the vast majority of UK production will be exported. So they don't build all Vauxhall Astras in the UK and all Opel Astras in the other plants.
However, it must be said that the fact that GM still build cars in the UK is a good thing. Cars built in the UK by foreign-owned companies allow the UK to be Europe's 4th largest car manufacturer. A fact lost on Joe Public who thinks that no cars are built in the UK any more. This may be the reason why about 80% of UK production is exported

This beautiful Rover 75 is now up for sale.
It's done 74k, has MOT until January and tax until the end of September.
Only this year it has had all new tyres, new exhaust, top-quality respray of the front bumper, four wheel alignment and a full clay, machine-polish and wax.
The interior is perfect and has a brand new (from China) walnut steering wheel fitted.
Being a Connoisseur SE it has the lot. Cruise control, auto-dipping mirror, parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, trip computer, Symphony radio/CD player with 6 disc changer, electric, heated, memory front seats, rear screen blind, etc etc..!
First to see I'm sure will want to buy. Looking for £1,295 ovno.
