            what about the Ford Puma?

If i ever get a broadband connection i must upload a video i did for college to the web somewhere, comparing the Puma and the Maestro, a top gear style production. You'd all love it!

Got held up by a few Fords today when I was on my way to RDGelder's in the Mighty Maesty. Two Escorts, one of which we beat from the lights (0-30mph, that is ) and a Mondeo.

hmmm, quite a bit of a anti Ford feeling floating around this forum. Personally I think this assault on popular cars has been a little mis-directed. Vectras are crap basically because the new one it similar to the last one and the old one is just like the Mk3 cav - boring.

New Mondeo or Vetra? Mondeo hands down (if you were in the market for a middle of the road family saloon) although I would actually go for a 75 or maybe a ZT+

To make a fair comparison of Fords and the Meastro I think you'd really have to look at the Escort (and escorts from the same era of course)... then consider what exactly defines the comparison? say this is measured in desirability and the amount sold - then the Escort wins!

Why? rally Pedigree, Ford badge, range, dealer network, brand loyalty, resalability, image, Reps, and the fact that they didn't get slated in the press every other week... The Meastro STILL, to this day, gets slated in the press (as we all saw in the Times a little while ago) and in practical classics.

The Meastro is a good car - but for a whole lot of different reasons as to why one might consider the Escort to be a good car. You cannot really say the Maestro is better than Fords in general becuase most modern ford will p!ss on the meastro... Granted a turbo'd meastro may be faster than 1.4 focus but you can't get a meastro with Air con, ABS, airbags, side impact protection systems, ridged Cabin design or EBS...

Anyways, I seem to have ranted quite enough here... haha

However, after watching tonight's topgear - I think I might be buying a new Renault Megane... If you didn't see it - they drove a standard Megane into another car's side at thirty Miles an hour. The driver (with NO protective gear other than a pair of gloves) got out un-harmed and walked away.

Possibly most peoples hatred for Fords on this forums comes from a strong personal feeling rather than based on facts such as 'Escorts sold better than Maestro's so therefore it was the better car'. Perhaps it has something to do with brand loyalty. How many of you Ford haters out there have had long relationships with Rover's, Austin's and BL cars from the past?

It would be interesting comparing a Maestro or Montego to its modern equivilant. I wonder if it would deform as much as the Rover Metro did prior to its withdrawl. That was basically unchanged from the early eighties Metro.

Yeah...but the Metro is undeniably worse and it didn't stop anyone buying the mini which is soooooo unsafe! The 'scolloped' sides reinforce the body. I also have a brick of an engine to give me some protection at the front as well

I would have thought the Metro, Maestro & Montego would all perform in a similar way in a crash. They were designed at roughly the same time.
