  • maestro turbo tyres

Hi if any one could help on best tyre / brand for the maestro turbo as i want the best performance, I've seen some Toyo T1R £145.99 for a set of 4 but would like your help and knowledge on this.

    Define best performance?

The T1R is a budget tyre that performs pretty well (I use them a lot).

However there are more performance orientated tyres out there. The R1R for example, but most people won't want to use these as the life is shorter and the wet grip quite poor (relative to the dry grip).

Are you set on keeping the same tyre size as the maestro one is a little unusual. The cheaper nearly equivalent tyre size is 195/50/15 (rather than the original which is 185/55/15 I think).

Does the second tyre size you have mentioned fit on the original rim ok and does it affect the speedo or ride quality? didn't know you could get the R1R's in any of them two sizes, off to Google

That's just answered a question for me, as I need to change the tyres on #436. Currently I've got 4 different makes/brands on each corner, so need to get some consistency! I want to get back to "correct" sizes when I do that, so thanks E_T_V for your info.

Yes they fit fine and are usually considerably cheaper than the original size.
They are lower profile so have less sizewall flex (and 10mm wider too). This means marginally harder ride but improved steering response.

The size is 1.5% smaller so won't unduely affect the speedo reading.

Yes it was the 195/50/15 i had in mind, as for performance tyre i didn't want to go that soft that they are no good in the wet and only last 4000 mile's.

Good old ebay, just type in the tyre size you want i.e 195 50 15 and loads come up.

I have just had fitted 5 (got the spare done as well) Toyo T1R's to the maestro today. I went for the 195/50/15 as suggested rather than the standard 185/55/15 but I found the ride to wallow more I thought it would cause the ride to stiffen up. Does the tyre pressure have to be changed when fitting wider tyres? I noticed it seems to be sitting on the tyre walls more now and they look 'flatter' than the old ones with the same psi in (32).

Maybe the old tyres were so aged that the rubber had stiffened up, hence the harder ride. The new tyres' rubber would be newer and more supple, giving better grip for starters.

Try upping the tyre pressure in the fronts particularly. I run the same size on my 200 at 36psi

Ok cheers, ail try upping the front to 36 and say 33 at the rear? Yes main reason they come off they looked ancient, cracked and rock hard.

Ive had a shot of the 185/55/15 T1R's from #146 for a few weeks and I wouldn't recommend them. They wear quickly partly due to the soft compound. Not great in the wet and nothing to shout about in the dry. I found them very wallowy too.

195's will look fatter as they are wider tyres

The tyres are 10mm wider than the 185's.
The sidewall is 102mm on the 185's and 97.5mm on the 195's so not a massive difference.

There are far better tyres out there but they are very good value for money in my opinion. Far better than most other tyres at that price anyhow.

I can highly recommend lassa tyres as a budget choice, your probably thinking what I thought but lassa are actually made by Bridgestone and are pretty good not a fan of toyos tbh. Nanking are ok but as the tread goes down performance drops off rapidly, kumho is not a bad choice Yokohama are great but don't last too long Goodyear eagle f1's are awesome but very pricey and don't last long federal seem middle if the road but don't trust them in the wet and avons nearly killed me in the wet and put me off for life! Think that's about everything I've tried in recent years. Overall my money is in lassa tyres at the moment

Never hear or used Lassa tyres before. I think I'd choose something like this instead though

                              http://www.camskill.co.uk/m53b0s99p1..._Noise%3A_71dB

I've got them on my ZTT and if I didn't have a pile of toyos in the garage then I'd happily stick them on my turbo too.
